The AHA’s Basic Life Support course will train participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilation and provide early use of an AED. This course reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). You will be taught how to perform high-quality CPR for adults, children and infants, the AHA Chain of Survival, the importance and use of AED as soon as possible, and effective ventilation using a barrier device. This course also teaches the importance of team dynamics in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR. Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants will also be taught in the BLS course. Once successfully completing the course, students will receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please ensure that you are selecting the correct course. What is BLS training?

Basic Life Support, or BLS, refers to emergency cardiovascular care that first responders, healthcare professionals and public safety personnel provide to someone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or choking.

Who is required to have BLS training?

Most medical providers including doctors, nurses, medical assistants, dental professionals, firefighters and police officers are usually required to obtain BLS training and certification.

Can BLS Certification be obtained on-line?
BLS training can be obtained on-line but be careful!   ALWAYS check with your employer to see if they accept the on-line certification that you are researching. We always recommend in-person instruction for maximum learning opportunity.

Since we are American Heart Association Instructors, we offer a blended learning opportunity according to the AHA guidelines.  The class can be taken at https://cpr.heart.org and we can provide the required in-person skills testing portion of the class and issue your BLS Course Completion Card to present to your employer or representing board.

What are the course completion requirements for the BLS Provider Course?

In order to receive a Basic Life Support Course Completion Card, participants must complete the following:

  • Participate in hands-on demonstrations of high-quality CPR skills
  • Pass the Adult CPR and AED Skills Test
  • Pass the Infant CPR Skills Test
  • Score at least 84% on the written exam
What is Heartcode® BLS?
HeartCode® BLS is the online portion of BLS blended learning that prepares students for hands-on practice and testing of skills. The course content is presented in the form of self-directed learning content, probing questions, and Cognitive Assessment Activities (CAAs). After completing the eLearning component, students perform their skills with an AHA Instructor. Students must successfully complete both the cognitive portion and the in-person skills session to receive an American Heart Association BLS eCard, valid for two years.
Do I need to complete the online portion of the course before I take the hands-on skills session?
Yes. You must take the entire course and print out the Certificate of Completion. You can email it to your AHA Instructor or bring the certificate with you to the in-person skills test and give it to the Instructor.
Is obtaining the BLS Provider Manual required when taking the class?
Yes, the BLS Provider Manual is required for course completion and to obtain your BLS Course Completion Card.

Our course fee INCLUDES the BLS Provider Manual, no hidden costs! However, if you are taking the on-line portion, the electronic manual is included in the price of the Heartcode® course.

Is there a written exam in a BLS Course?
Yes, there is a required written exam at the end of the instructor led BLS course which must be passed with an 84%. We thoroughly cover all topics/questions in the exam during the class period. Our goal is not only to help you successfully earn your BLS Course Completion card but to make sure that you take with you a solid understanding and retention of Basic Life Support.
How do I obtain my BLS Course Completion Card?

Cards are issued electronically once all course requirements are met. If your training was done with CPR Training Team, your AHA card can be retrieved at cprtrainingteam.com by scrolling to the View or Verify My E-card Now tab.
